Congratulations to Sussex Stingrays, Brighton’s U20 team, for winning the Lemmings Luau tournament, and to Sussex Mohawks Mixed for winning the UKU Uni Mixed Cooldown event in Cardiff!
We held an EGM and are happy to announce Joe Butler was elected as President of BU, and Noah Frisbee as the new Director of Development.
A new Funding Committee was also established, chaired by John Maule.
Brighton Ultimate is proud to announce the return of the first indoor draft league since 2015. Draft leagues are fantastic events which begin with the captains selecting their players on draft night. Who will get picked first? Which captain has come up with the best plan? Who’s going to find a great player late on in the draft? and who’s the most generous teammate at the bar? all this will be discovered at Draft Night on Tuesday 5th February, at the Open House.
Games will start on Tuesday 12th February 8pm til 10pm at BACA. The same location as the hat league but we will have games running on 2 pitches and a slightly longer break between games.
It’s an opportunity for you to play 6 weeks of mixed indoor ultimate for the price of £14. Concessions for women, students and juniors who will pay £12.

Sussex Youth is a club for any young people around Sussex and below the age of 20 to play Ultimate frisbee. We will hold training days and enter tournaments around the U.K. It will be a great chance to improve your skills and also meet other young players in the South East. Beginners welcome, first training is on the 12th of January.
The aim is to provide an opportunity for young people that do not have a club in their school or college and want the chance to train and compete with players of a similar age. We also want to support and connect schools which have already started Ultimate.
Sussex Youth will be working closely with Brighton Ultimate and both Sussex and Brighton Universities. If this interests you then fill out the form and we’ll be in touch with how you can get involved. If you are under 18 you need permission from your parent or guardian to fill this out.

On the night we’ll just be playing games. Turn up and you’ll be put into semi-random teams (hat draw).
Tuesday 13th November (Facebook event) at the Walrus Pub at 7pm
The time has come around again for the Annual General Meeting – your chance to chat about the running of the club, and get involved with being a part of the committee of one of the longest running and most forward-thinking frisbee clubs in the country for the coming 2019 season. More info about the committee and what they do is available here.
There are definitely going to be posts becoming available this year, so if you are keen to give back to the community and run with your own ideas of how things should be done, now is your chance!
See this doc for full descriptions of the roles and responsibilities in the BU Committee.

Sign-ups are now open: https://goo.gl/forms/cG9atCF3fZibq5cq1, or just turn up on the day (preferably sign up though!)
What: The BU Summer League is a team-based Ultimate Frisbee competition, open to beginners and experienced players alike! Sign up / turn up, be allocated to a team, and enjoy playing 2 or 3 games in an evening. If we only have enough players for two teams, we’ll mix up the teams a few times and keep track of everyone’s wins on a leaderboard!
When: Every Monday evening (6:15pm throwing/warm-up, 7:00pm games start), from 11th June 2018 for 5 weeks (final week: 9th July)
Where: Wild Park, Lewes Road, Brighton
Who: Come along whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned veteran – everyone is welcome, all you need to bring is a light & a dark shirt, footwear to run around in, some water, and £3 to play on the day. Any questions just contact email@example.com
Want to volunteer?
If you volunteer to run the warm-up or be “League Organiser” on-the-day (putting out cones, collecting names/fees, recording wins, and so on), you’ll be able to play that week free of charge! (or receive a £3 refund if you’ve already paid £10). If you want to volunteer, say so on the sign-up form, or email Felix.
If you are interested in the direction the club is taking, the work the committee is doing, or if you have time, ideas, opinions, a voice you wish to be heard, or if you want to contribute to spreading / growing / developing / elevating frisbee in Brighton, then you should join the new BU Community Forum!
Rising from the ashes of the old BU Committee GoogleGroup, this is an area where we expect to have 10-20 enthusiastic/knowledgeable/keen BU members putting forward opinions, ideas, and generally getting involved in a range of discussions about the club – or just keeping their ears close to the ground and chiming in when they see fit. Agendas for the committee meetings will be constructed here, minutes after the meetings will be posted here open for discussion, and all the Directors should be actively reading and taking part in the group.
If you have an idea but don’t want it to be open to members for discussion for whatever reason, you can always contact the relevant Director directly, or myself or Joe Butler (President).
