Brighton Mixed beat Chichester in the final to win the last London Winter League event of the year, giving themselves enough points to secure first place in the entire winter league mixed division. Well done us! Who says London produces the best Ultimate teams in the UK?? ;)

Last weekend Brighton sent two teams – an open team and the womens team – to Skogshyddan’s Vintertrofén (“Winter Trophy”), a European indoor tournament in Gothenberg, Sweden. The tournament was attended by some of the top European teams – in the open division Brighton won two games as well as losing some very close games including one in sudden death, eventually finishing 24th out of 32. Brighton Women, in both their tournament and international debut, did excellently to win three of six games and make it to the plate final, finishing 10th out of 16.
As always, a more detailed report by someone who actually went will be posted soon.

On Sunday Brighton went across to Southampton for some Ladder League matches organised by Ltd Release. In their debut appearance, the Brighton Womens’ team played the Ltd Release women, and after a long and hard-fought match were victorious 8-6.
Meanwhile, Brighton Open played Skunks and the Ltd Release open team, winning 15-1 and 16-3 respectively.

Recent results:

The Ladder League game on Saturday between the Mohawks and Brighton Ultimate was a long and hard-fought match. Every time Brighton got a lead Mohawks would claw back a few points to level the score, but in the end Brighton pulled away to win 17-13.

London Winter League today was played in some unexpected sunshine, which was nice. Mixed won two of their three pool games but there was a 3-way tie and we came out on top, putting us in the final against Discuits. It was a tough game and in the end we missed out on first place by a single point, losing 7-6. Open won 1 of their pool games (I think?) and lost their final, to come 6th. Longer reports will be posted should anyone write them.

Brighton sent two teams to Guildford this weekend for a Christmas tournament hosted by Surrey Scorpions. Rough Sleepers were seeded first but after some disappointing results they could only manage 7th place. Tony Harrison were seeded 5th and narrowly missed out on a top 4 finish – in the end they won the plate final for 5th place. Tony Harrison also secured the three pint challenge prize with a mediocre-at-best time of 29 seconds.

Brighton Ultimate continued our London Winter League success last Sunday, coming 6th in the Open division and 3rd in Mixed. Here’s Vicky’s report on the Mixed team’s performance. Read more

I have a feeling it only counts as a Ladder League event rather than a proper Winter League event, since a lot of the top teams/players are in Perth for the World Club Championships, but… Brighton Ultimate had some great results today in London.

In the open division, our team beat Sublime 7-6 and ABH 9-8 in their pool, then lost to Revolution 12-6 in the semi-final and beat Fever 10-8 in the 3v4 final, coming 3rd out of 12 teams.

In the mixed division, we beat PAF 13-2 and lost to Discuits 6-5 in the first pool, and then beat Thrown and ABH in our second pool to finish 4th out of 15.

Can we continue these great results when the London’s top open and mixed teams return from down-under? Only time, and London Winter League 2*, can tell…
