The Brighton-based junior team, Strangers With Candy, recently sent two teams to the 2009 Under-19s Indoor Nationals. They had great results all round, coming 8th and 11th (out of 28 teams), and achieving 1st and 2nd place in Spirit scores! You can read the full tournament reports here.

Following from last year’s successful Mixed Tour, Brighton Ultimate will be hosting the second Open Tour division A and Women’s Tour on the 4th and 5th of July. Open Tour 2 for divisions B and C will be hosted in Birmingham the following weekend.

This coming Monday (15th December) will be our last before the winter break. Bring mince pies and Christmas cheer and be prepared for Jason & Tom’s Christmas Quiz afterwards in the clubhouse!

Practices will resume in the new year on the 5th January.

Practice is cancelled tonight due to strong winds and rain. See you next week!

Be down at Hove Rugby club for a 6:30pm start (just near Hove station, on Old Shoreham Road, map link), we’ll play until 9 and then meet in the bar for a couple of drinks. There is also showers and changing rooms for those of you who like to wash.

Brighton sent three teams to the UK open & women’s national ultimate championships last weekend, and had great results all round:
Brighton 1 came 5th in Open division 1.
Brighton 2 came 7th in Open division 2 (that’s 23rd overall, and their best finishing position ever in a national event).
Brighton Women came 7th in the Women’s division.

A few weeks earlier, Brighton also went to the UK mixed national ultimate championships and maintained this year’s excellent mixed division performances with a third place finish.

Good job everyone who played! Now we head into the long, dark, muddy and wet winter season (as opposed to the long, bright, muddy and wet summer season) and train up for next year…

New to Ultimate? Check out our New Player page first.

The 2008 Brighton & Hove Summer League started on 1st July, with over 75 players – 30 of whom are playing Ultimate for the first time – joining into six teams to compete over the coming weeks. Teams and results will be posted on the BAHSL page.

It’s not too late to sign up! Even if you’ve missed a few weeks of the league and/or you’ve never played Ultimate before, head over to our New Player page to sign up and start getting involved before the summer is up!

Keep an eye on the BAHSL page to stay up to date with the league.

UPDATE: Mixed Tour 1 was a great success, with everything running smoothly and Brighton making it to the final! Unfortunately they were beaten to first place by Chevron Action Flash, but it was still a great result for the local team. Find out the full finishing positions and spirit scores on the Mixed Tour 1 page.

Brighton are hosting the first big tournament of the Mixed Tour calendar, which sees over 30 of the best Ultimate teams in the UK & Europe come together in a battle for the #1 spot.

Spectators are invited to come and see the best teams compete over the whole weekend, 09:30-16:00 on both Saturday and Sunday 7th & 8th June, climaxing in the Grand Final at 15:30 on Sunday. Brighton’s home team are second favorites to win the tournament, so local support is encouraged and much appreciated!

The games are taking place at the Waterhall Sports Ground [Google Maps link]. For more info see the Mixed Tour 1 page.

Next Tuesday (27th May), Jason will be going through a few basic skills & how to play Ultimate. If you’re new then this is the perfect time to start learning a bit more about the game, and if you have a friend who is interested in starting then bring them along!
The location is the same as the usual practice – Preston Park, near the tennis courts.

Hot on the tail of the Mixed Tour 1 announcement, comes the official invite to this year’s Brighton Beyond! Brighton Beyond is a heady mixture of Ultimate, sunshine, and hardcore chillaxin’ in the beautiful Sussex countryside. Check the BB08 page for more info and sign-up details…
