Ultimate has been played in Brighton for over 20 years. The Sussex University team Hawks, set up in 1986, are one of the longest-running teams in the country and have achieved the highest honour of winning the student national Open and Women’s championships on multiple occasions. More recently, a Brighton University team – the Panthers – have appeared and are going from strength to strength.
Brighton Ultimate as a club oversees the development of Ultimate in Brighton & Hove, running practice sessions through the year, organising socials, and helping Brighton-based teams enter Tour (we regularly have four Open and two Women’s BU-affiliated teams entering) and international tournaments.
Our Mission Statement
The BU club aims to encourage and develop all levels of Ultimate in Brighton by:
- providing opportunities for local players to play in regular pick-up games, attend coached sessions, and participate in league events,
- working together with the council and other organisations to introduce the game to beginners,
- providing a forum where the captains of the various Brighton teams – University and non-University alike – in various divisions can communicate openly with each other and cooperate for mutual benefit,
- supporting all teams and players as and when they need it, for example by but not limited to: fronting fees for developing teams entering Tour, and subsidising elite teams entering international competitions.
